Family Portrait: A snapshot

Thursday, October 28th, 2010 | musiX

Remember when a band’s logo was just as (if not more) important than the music itself? New Jersey’s Family Portrait has one of the coolest band logos I’ve seen in some time … almost as cool as this, and this and this one. Fortunately their music is good, too. And, no, it’s not metal.

The band plays pretty, lo-fi pop songs on a label that puts out a lot of pretty, lo-fi pop songs. That label—Underwater Peoples—has been divvying up the goods over the past couple years on a series of mixtapes.

“Glide, Pt. 1″ will appear on Family Portrait’s forthcoming full-length. Here’s to the band making a little scratch to build that giant logo for their stage set-up … because giant, kick-ass band logos should not be relegated to kitschy metal bands and shitty, modern-day country artists. Better yet, make a donation.
