Music Go Music = dance go dance

To get me on a dance floor it takes approximately 8.5 beers (or four cocktails) and an ABBA record. It’s the music I loved as a kid but would never admit to anyone—along with Amii Stewart’s version of “Knock On Wood”) … oh, and Rod Stewart’s “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy.” If you tell anyone about the last one I will never speak to you again.
I recently listened to Los Angeles pop crew Music Go Music, and it took me back to those times when ELO and ABBA came on the radio while I hovered around the speakers pretending like I wasn’t interested. Expressions, the trio’s full-length debut on Secretly Canadian, is discotheque-ready synth-pop that—unlike many kitschy throwback artists—sounds rather fresh. It comes down to the hooks and Gala Bell’s voice, which I’m completely sold on—is she the long-lost younger stepsister of Agnetha Fältskog?
It’s enough to get me on the dance floor … after 8.5 beers, of course (or four cocktails). And not before performing proper calisthenics … yes, and it must, must, be a waning gibbous moon …

Hey, I like this song! See what you’re talking about. Yet, somehow, I like it better than ABBA… More self-aware?
Great post. Fun song. But Music Go Music is channeling a bit too much Abba for my taste, even if I do really like “Dancing Queen.”
