Eels have feelings, too

Mark Everett—aka E, aka Eels—has been been a notable purveyor of music of the sad-bastard varietal since the release of A Man Called E in 1992. Everett’s career has since been punctuated with double-albums, records dealing with death and disease, appearances on numerous soundtracks and collaborations with notable musicians like R.E.M.’s Peter Buck and even Tom Waits.

But he still can’t seem to catch a break as evidenced in the new video for “That Look You Give That Guy,” the latest release from this year’s Hombre Lobo: 12 Songs of Desire. The album is more straight-forward than some of his previous work—full of jangly blues pop that still keep with his sad-sack themes. Decent, but not great. “That Look You Give That Guy” is the best of the batch, and the video … well, it features Top Chef’s Padma Lakshmi. There are no losers here.

And apparently, E is in a good place creatively. Eels will release a new record called End Times on Jan. 19, 2010, only seven months after Hombre Lobo.
