Them crooked supergroups
Monday, October 26th, 2009 | musiX
I’m fully prepared to be let down by Them Crooked Vultures. It’s not that I’m a cynical prick kvetch … well, actually I am … but that’s not the reason. It’s just that historically most “supergroups” aren’t very good. They lure you in with those big, pretty, sparkly names only to drop a collective steaming turd onto a platter. And that’s just gross.
But how can you miss with names like John Paul Jones, Josh Homme and Dave Grohl? (If you don’t know the bands they’ve played in, leave now). It should be an explosive rock unit. Them three dudes just released the first single from their forthcoming self-titled record (out Nov. 17) called “New Fang.” It’s not bad, although it’s not grabbing me by throat … which it should. Give ‘er a listen and let me know what you think of this here song.

I’m digging the Eels track a lot more than this one. But really, has Everett put out bad albums?
